About the Rosary
THE ROSARY
A Christian Devotional
Most spiritual traditions have a prayer series similar
to The Rosary. In early times people used knots in strings, or beads on a
string, to keep track of prayers offered to God. In Western Christianity the
most popular form of The Rosary was set by The Dominican Order and is called
The Dominican Rosary.
The sets of repetitive prayer are actually a doorway
into deeper communion with God, and as one's mind rests on the prayer,
or the mystery of each series, beautiful things happen. The gifts of this
type of prayer are intangible and transcendent, and one would do well to focus
on God "the giver, not the gift." That said, the form is simple, and once
the prayers are known, the process becomes pretty automatic, and lets real
meditative communion begin, alone or with others.
The saying of The Rosary can be done by anyone, and
can be altered to suit your own inclinations and comfort levels of worship
and meditation needs.
